when did u discover your creative gift?
~I was about 13 when I realized I had a Flare for Hair Artistry!
have u always focused solely on natural hair?
~Not at All. For Many years I was Doing Weaves and YES Even Those Deadly Relaxers.
what influenced that decision?
~My First attempt in 98 to go Natural Went Terribly Wrong…After many more years of Damaging Relaxers I decided Enough was ENOUGH!!! In 2003 I began my Natural transition,by 2004 I had cut the remainder of my Relaxed Hair. For the 1st time I was able to see my hair in it’s Most Natural State! It was HUGE and Beautiful. With this decision came The Desire to Live and Promote a Complete Holistic Lifestyle…I couldn’t continue to poison my sisters and brothers scalps when I knew I wouldn’t do it to myself.
are there any hairstylists that have influenced you?
~Thando Kafela
Khamit Kinks – Anu Preston
Isis Brantley
Madam C.J Walker
also Mekhat Moore, she is the Owner of a salon in St. Louis. The 1st Natural Hair salon in our city actually.
how do u balance motherhood with being a successful business owner?
~ It’s A Challenge. My Daughter requires a lot of My attention. Between Her Ballet classes and her Rambunctious Personality I am All OVER THE PLACE!!! Yet, Somehow we make it Work. I keep Zion Close to me. I’m not Awarded the opportunity or the Luxury of A Nanny LOL…So We do what we have to. Yet, I am Lucky to Have a Great Supportive Family. I have a Spot for Zion in the Salon, albeit small, it’s hers…including Games, Movies, Books and The Abundance of Interesting Conversations she gets to have with my clients children and even some of my clients. Zion is very well behaved and polite and she entertains herself Very well. I work Tuesday through Saturday so Every Sunday we have a Mother Daughter day of Whatever WE CHOOSE TO DO…With No Interuptions! I do feel that she misses some things like Some birthday parties, you know things like that, but I do My best to make up for things missed. Being a Single mom makes it even harder but I really don’t have any complaints, This is our Life. This was a choice and I knew there would be some sacrifice. That is why I wanted a Premier Salon with a PERSONAL and Comfortable Atmosphere not only for the clients but for my daughter and myself. I balance it by Keeping My priority to My daughter 1st. Everything Else is Secondary…or Not Important!
what motivated you to open the root worker?
~ I Needed a Creative Outlet that was a TRUE Representation of My Personality and The Vision I had for myself and My Community.

what does god hop mean to you?
~Wow….Bringing You To The LOU Was Big for Me. Opening my City up to Such Strong Energy from a Female Perspective Had to be Done!!! GOD HOP Is EVOLUTION!!! The Movement Found Me…When I caught wind of Your Sound Power My Mission Became to Let The People KNOW!!! God Hope is The Now…Hip Hop didn’t Die…It Just Grew Up!
does your cultural ideology affect your path in business?
~Of Course!!! My Lifestyle is Not a Fad nor A Game so in My Salon I Promote A Full Healthy Body Inside and out. I offer Alkaline Water…and I Do my Best to Assist in the Education of Our Bodies, Mind and Spirit. We Offer Lifestyle Transitioning Classes, We host Vision Board Workshops, We Offer Reiki and Spiritual Holistic Counseling. We are Even Hosting a 2 day AIDS and HIV Awareness and Testing in the Salon…And It’s FREE!!! My Goal Is Awareness and Revitalization. I am A Wombman Of Virtue and I lead By Example. My Culture Influences My Everyday Life so in turn I am Constantly Involving my clients, co-workers,friends and family in my Life work
how do u see your business growing in the next five years?
In the next 5 Years….I see Expansion. Another Salon…Traveling Stylists…A Larger Boutique that Caters to Artists AND My Everyday Clients…I see it Still being A Smaller Salon I really Like The Cozy Feel of My Place. I See My Products Being Distributed throughout Salons in this land and even over seas! I envision a Natural Hair Education Institute Founded by The Root Worker. I See Us Being a Huge Part of This Natural Hair Movement.
