FTP MOVEMENT – ANOTHER GROUND BREAKING INITIATIVE

FTP Movement Gears Up to Feed People Globally!

ATLANTA, GA – March 19, 2012 – On March 24 and 25, in a cross-continental effort to bring attention to gross injustices against the hungry and poor, the FTP Movement launches its 4th annual International Feed the People Weekend. Participants working in solidarity on three continents will be distributing meals, hygiene kits, medical supplies, and bottled water to thousands of people in need. With 18 locations participating this year, FTP Movement and its affiliates have crossed international waters to provide services in both Lukasa, Zambia and Nannup, Australia, along with U.S. cities such as San Diego, Houston, Oakland, Detroit, Boston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Orlando, Anchorage, Atlanta, and other locations all contributing to the movement.

Since its inception in 2004, the Feed the People Program has broadened its scope and served over 130,000 meals and care packages in several major metropolitan cities. In an effort to cover more ground and reach more people in need, FTP Movement calls for supporters around the globe to lend a hand and a heart.

Feed the People Weekend will include Hip Hop concerts, poetry events, and teach-ins at participating locations.

About FTP Movement

FTP Movement formed in response to “the system’s” disregard for the poor and its oppressive conditions that foster poverty. With a focus on uplifting poor and urban communities respectively, and promoting unity, justice, freedom, and self-sufficiency, FTP Movement strives to work on behalf of “the people.” As a grassroots organization, FTP Movement operates through the hearts of its members, who consistently serve with the passion to work as activists and revolutionaries.

The Feed the People Program is part of a growing list of initiatives headed by the organization. Others include Siafu Youth Corps, Mama’s Army, Atlanta Independent Artist Scene, Mothers of Black and Brown Babies (MOBBB), and Behind Enemy Lines. Activities in which the organization has been involved include the Black August Commemoration, Happily Natural Day, Poets 4 Political Prisoners, and Crew Love.

FTP Movement is embodied by its logo, an artistic representation of the Siafu Ant of Eastern Africa, a species that exemplifies the essence of teamwork. The Siafu has no eyes and no venom – only strong jaws. Individually each is small, but as a team they can strip a water buffalo down to the bone in less than an hour. FTP Movement is much like the Siafu Ant – small in size, but powerful beyond measure.

the lynching of trayvon martin

March 23, 2012 in EVENTS, FYI, Life Experience, Sa-Roc

trayvon martin was lynched. before you rush to correct me on my facts or check to see what era i’ve been whisked away to, let me stop you and repeat myself. trayvon martin was lynched. see, i am well aware of the facts but the motivation behind his shooting death echoes eerily of a time where a strange type of fruit hung from the branches of trees and simply being black in amerikkka made you a potential victim.

there are almost 3000 documented victims of lynch mobs killed between 1882 and 1930 in just ten southern states. 2500 of the victims were black. of these black victims, 94 percent died in the hands of white lynch mobs. If these numbers don’t astound you, let me break it down a little further for you. this means that on the average, a black man, woman, or child was murdered nearly once a week, every week, between 1882 and 1930 by a hate-driven white mob. and that’s just at the turn of the century! this does not include the many undocumented cases of lynchings that occurred through the era of Jim Crow, which didn’t officially end until 1965. and among the many bulls–t excuses used for lynching a Black person, including “being obnoxious”, insulting a white man, or frightening a white woman, was ACTING SUSPICIOUSLY. sound familiar? the astronomical numbers previously stated don’t even reflect how many cases went undocumented due to fear or just plain coverups by the police and racist media. trayvon’s case could’ve gone the same route had it been up to fox news. in the entire 3 weeks following his murder, fox reported on the case ONCE. a heartbreaking story that became a trending topic on twitter, was irrelevant news to the media giant, notorious for its vehemently racist “journalists” and pro republican leanings. seemingly reflective of the lackadaisical attitude of racist amerikkka towards the loss of black life, fox chose to effectively “coverup” the murder of trayvon martin. but what’s their motivation?

the real motivation behind lynching was simple: Show the niggers who’s boss. For this was THEIR land, and their security(be it financial, regarding racial purity, or otherwise) was tantamount. lynching was used as a habitual tool of state sanctioned terrorism against us to establish the lines of power and show us where we shouldn’t cross. even now, with the shootings of sean bell, amadou diallo, and oscar grant making headlines through the years, the lenient prison sentences handed down to the police make it clear that the murder of black people is STILL state sanctioned. how else do you explain the killer of oscar grant receiving less than 2 years for shooting this unarmed, handcuffed young man in the back? the uniformed murderers of sean bell shooting 50 bullets at sean and his friends because they “believed” they were armed, being cleared of all charges? or trayvon’s killer still 3 weeks free after murdering the young king because he was suspicious of his clothing choices? even if the threat is imaginary, in the eyes of white amerikka a black life is worth every bit of the message it sends-that our lives are dispensable. no matter that some of the perpetrators these days are people of color. the caste system created by racism and colonialism has caused the colonized to identify and align with their oppressors and for the rest of us to be pushed further outside the margins. hence, zimmerman, the hispanic man who killed trayvon, was identified as white, and was protected by the establishment as a reward for his protection of white land.

but even deeper down the rabbit hole it goes. black manhood was, and still is, seen as an affront to white society. the deeply melanated skin was a visual threat to white society. it, along with the black man’s physical prowess, was a symbol of dominance, a threat to the “purity” of the white race. so, like the epic battle of ausar and set, where set usurped power from his brother and finalized his murder by cutting off his penis, many black men were castrated after lynching to effectively eliminate the threat of their power. This fear is still so deeply ingrained that a 250 pound and armed zimmerman was “shook” and angered by a young black teenager who was 100 lbs lighter and 11 years his junior. trayvon’s life was ended not because of his color, but because of his melanin. sidenote: people with direct afrikan ancestry, no matter what complexion they are, carry copious amounts of a specific type of melanin called eumelanin. this form is more genetically dominant and establishes physiological differences between races(check vitamins and minerals from a to z by dr. jewel pookrum). while trayvon wasn’t technically castrated, he was done so metaphorically, because of the effective sterilization caused by his murder. are you still with me?

although we hear that the times have changed, with magazines trumpeting the emergence of one colorblind human race, it seems that black people are still subject to state sanctioned abuse, terror, and murder at the whim of the oppressor. though the weapons have advanced from rope to 9mm, black people are still being lynched and put in their place by perpetrators who seek to eliminate any potential threat to their economic, social, and racial security in stolen land.

my womb, yet to bear its own fruit, aches for sybrina fulton, trayvon’s mother, who had to listen to her baby screaming for help while she was helpless to save him. i am angered and pained along with tracy martin, trayvon’s father, who son was denied the chance to father his own seeds, his life cut tragically short.

ironically, the hoods have changed colors and wearers, from white to black, from klan members to 17 year old boys. previously worn by open perpetrators of racial violence and now worn by the victims of it, the hood, or hoodie now has a somber connotation. as i mourn for this young king’s life, i rock a hoodie, not as a potential victim, but in solidarity with thousands of black people. formerly strange fruit hanging from southern trees, they are now, like trayvon, cut down before their time. unripened towards the ground.
rest in uhuru trayvon martin. ase.

the five elemental hand shapes:which element are you?

March 21, 2012 in FYI, Incredible Findings, Science

I ran into the science of reading elemental hand shapes over 10 years ago in a book on asian herbology. it seemed like it could be a great companion to astrology that could offer further insight into personality types and dispositions. i stumbled across this site today and revitalized my interest in this science. let me know what you think. what type of element are you?

Water Hand: The first kind of hand is water composed with soft dedication, it has long palm long slim fingers, enmeshed with fine lines, these kinds of hands are soft and smooth, which is associated with insecure feelings, and shows over emotional of an individual in every aspect of life. Their personal as well as professional life also suffers but they have a strong intellect. Water hand people are also known to be highly imaginative. They always keep dreaming or imagining about those things which requires imagination and creativity. Sometime it happens that they dream a lot and work less. Water hand people are extremely sensitive to external conditions. Water hand people are really very sympathetic to others in society. And they care for poor people or contribute in development.

Fire Hand:There are few hands composed with a square long palm, short fingers and smooth skin. These are known as fire hands. Fire hands are associated with an energetic attitude. These people are full of energy and fire to do anything new. Sometime they become very impetuous. These people seem to be have more intuition than intellect. As a result they create so many obstacles in their life and family just because of intuitive nature. These people are more creative in a practical way rather than having a imagination. Fire hand people are always excited and they try to make environment excitable. They can easily run into an excessive emotion as well. Sometimes fire hand people are also called ‘intuitive’ or ‘impulsive’ hand.

Earth Hand: These types of hands are composed with heavy skins and bones, having a square palm size with thick and short fingers, with dark and very few palm lines. The palm lines are very deeply marked. These people are associated with a well balanced and reliable nature. These people have a more intellectual than intuitive attitude; these people are very tenacious, honest, and very practical and dependable in nature. They are also known as inert and slow starting. They are not much imaginative by nature like others, they believe in work. And always try to get the work done with accuracy. Sometimes these people become very violent too. As an individual these people play really important roles for the whole community.

Air Hand:These hands are composed of long bones and flexible fingers. Joints of all the bones are of equal proportion and such hands can be easily recognized with help of their fingers. The fingers are thin, long, artistic and well formed. Sometimes engraved with deeply etched lines, these people are very well balanced and reliable type. These people are very intellectual and also have a intuitive nature. Generally, profoundly distrustful of emotional values, sometimes they become quick-witted. Air type hand people are also known as good communicators. They can be a leader or a politician. A person with this hand type will be mostly truthful but can be devious.

Mixed Hand: Mixed hand person will be of mixture type of characteristics and behavior like their hand. The mind of such a person will be uncertain and they can soon become hopeless if they don’t succeed in doing a particular work. For this reason, they can become self-centered. They will be changeable and versatile to such an extent that they lack definite purpose in their life and easily get defamed. Many times mixed hand type people often lack mental disposition for reflection and deep thought.
Mixed hand person can have a great result out of their life if they utilize their ability in a potential way.

Chimamanda Adichie: The danger of a single story

March 2, 2012 in Afrika, FYI, Life Experience

chimamanda is an excellent author who weaves her unique cultural perspective into her work. politics, religion, and culture are dissected in her literary masterpieces, inviting you headfirst into a dialogue with her characters. all of her books are good, but half of a yellow sun made me ache with compassion and love for the characters and also informed me of the biafra war in nigeria. she’s dope. anyway, here she’s building on the danger of telling a single story.
